Introduction

Powered by leading data analytics technology, the WADEPS dashboard combines data from multiple sources to create interactive visualizations centered on the use of force by officers and contextualized with data about community and agency characteristics and total police incidents.

Dashboard visitors will be able to create and review data stories about individual agencies, selected agencies, or all agencies in the state, and/or by regions (city, county, or state), such as:

How to Use the Dashboard

Four tabs provide four different ways to look at data provided to WADEPS by law enforcement agencies in Washington state.

Tips:
> Hover over titles to show definitions or criteria.
> Hover over data visualization elements to see the data at that point.
> Open the “Controls” panel at the top each view to access data filters.
Combines required use-of-force incident data with limited computer-aided dispatch (CAD) data for all call for service. Default view is statewide. Enables users to draw insights by county, city, or agency over a selected time frame.
Data blocks:
The most in-depth view of the combined use-of-force incident data, CAD data for all calls for service, and contextual data such as socio-economic demographics and agency characteristics.

Using drop-down controls above the side-by-side map views, users can select from four different views: Rate of Force by County, Rate of Force by City, Raw Count by County, and Raw County by City.

Left-side map: Rate of Force data

Right-side map: Contextual data
A single table containing all publicly available data fields for the filters selected by the user. This view provides the user with additional options for filtering or sorting data.

The top half of the page consists of a heat map of agencies reporting UOF data by county as of the date selected.

The data table below the map contains additional compliance information.

Looks at specific counties, cities, agencies, or incident elements using the “Controls” tab at the top of each view. Filters are applied to all four dashboard views simultaneously.

For example, if King County is selected on the Overview tab, data only for cities and agencies within King County appear in the Overview graphs and charts as well as on the Map view, Table view and Compliance view.

The WADEPS dashboard is best viewed on a laptop or desktop computer.
